Alisson Becker is desperate for Mohamed Salah to sign a new contract at Liverpool as the winger’s future remains up in the air.

Salah’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season, while he will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club next month unless he puts pen to paper at Anfield before then.

The Egyptian, along with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, has now been offered a new contract by Liverpool, having previously suggested he was “more out than in” at the club. Reports have suggested that he is close to signing a new two-year deal, although no update has yet been given since he received his first offer.

Salah has been Liverpool’s standout player so far this season, having added a 16th goal to his tally during Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Girona. That took him to 28 goal involvements in just 22 appearances across all competitions, with Alisson revealing how the Reds’ dressing room is feeling about his future.

"We all want him to renew his contract, to remain at the club," Alisson said after the win over Girona. "I want the best for the club and the best for him. He's very calm. He doesn't seem to let this type of situation affect him. He's mentally very focused on his aims."

Thanks to Salah’s second half penalty in Spain – and Alisson’s impressive return from injury – Liverpool is now all but assured of a place in the Champions League’s last-16. That could prove vital for the Reds’ hopes of silverware this season, with it now looking likely they will avoid adding two extra play-off fixtures to an already packed schedule.

"The important thing is that we keep doing what we are doing," Alisson said. "We didn't play a brilliant game [against Girona]. We know we could have done better but it was enough to take three points and keep up the winning run. We know how important it is to finish in the top eight [in the Champions League.] We were very focused on that aim."

Liverpool.com says: Liverpool’s players don’t need to be reminded of just how important Salah is to the club. Without him, it is hard to see where exactly all of the Reds’ goals would come from, given he is still by far and away their best attacking option. Hopefully he keeps his form up this season, and more importantly, he puts pen to paper on a new deal soon.
