Alisson error compounded by second blow completely out of Liverpool goalkeeper's control

Alisson's shock error against Nottingham Forest was compounded by a second blow completely out of the Liverpool goalkeeper's control.

The Reds shot-stopper had failed to put a foot wrong so far this season after keeping clean sheets in all of Liverpool's three games, yet found himself public enemy number one after letting in the opener at Anfield today.

Callum Hudson-Odoi's long-range effort was a great effort, nonetheless, but those watching on would have felt the Brazilian between the sticks could have done better as the ball made its way towards the goal.

However, it's fair to argue that Alisson was slightly unsighted as Hudson-Odoi unleashed a strike from the edge of the penalty area, with Ibrahima Konate doing his best to close down the Forest attacker as he made his way in from the left wing.

While Alisson may have seen it slightly late, he thought it was going wide nonetheless as he watched it fly past him. But unfortunately for the 31-year-old, he completely misjudged the direction of the ball as it nestled into the far corner of his goal.

Forest players and fans ultimately went wild as they unexpectedly took the lead on Merseyside, yet Liverpool's frustration was immediately on show at having fallen behind.

Alisson flung his arms out in despair at his mistake, before turning back towards his defense in hope of an answer and yelling out his frustrations. The heads of those in front of him instantly dropped.

It was the first goal Liverpool had conceded this season and signaled the first defeat of the Arne Slot campaign, with the Reds failing to find an equalizer in a shock lackluster display in the first game back after the international break.

It was especially surprising given the way Liverpool had played in its opening three games, having picked up a maximum of nine points and failing to concede a single goal against Ipswich, Brentford and Manchester United.

Despite Alisson's mistake, the blame for the defeat cannot solely fall upon him. The Brazilian has rarely put a foot wrong during his time at the club and remains one of the best goalkeepers to ever wear the jersey since his 2018 arrival from Roma.

It was one of multiple setbacks for Alisson on Saturday. He lost his place among the top goalkeepers in Premier League history with multiple assists. His tally of three was overtaken by Brazil teammate Ederson, who set up Erling Haaland as Manchester City beat Brentford.

Both he and the rest of the squad will now look to make amends when the Reds kick off their Champions League campaign with a trip to the San Siro to face AC Milan on Tuesday, who will pose as much tougher opposition than today's Premier League opponents.
