Sam Allardyce has bitten back at Gary Neville as the pair’s public spat continues.

The former Manchester United defender has dismissed the ex-England manager’s criticism of Unai Emery’s approach at Arsenal.

Neville had a pop at Big Sam’s tactics on Monday Night Football, saying the new Gunners boss is “trying to build a team in the style to win a title, not lump it long and get in behind them”.

But Allardyce hasn’t taken the poke lying down – and was quick to respond when he was a guest on talkSPORT.

Neville, he said, “thinks he’s an expert” and “thinks he is always right”.

He said on the radio: “Why he quite had a dig, I’m not that sure. But of course Gary is very open in his own opinion.

“Let me say this, I’ve managed seven Premier League clubs and over 1,000 games. Do you think I’m entitled to my opinion? I think so.

“Gary is Gary, and in the end he thinks he’s always right, that’s probably the reason why he said it.

“But at the end of the day, people ask me for my opinion and I say what I see, I always give my honest opinion.

“He’s not right in what he said, but Gary is Gary – he’s got his opinion and I’ve got mine.”

Allardyce has come under fire on social media for his initial comments on Arsenal’s opening day defeat to Manchester City.

He said: “We are getting obsessed with this stupid ‘let’s play out from the back, split the centre halves either side of the 18-yard box and go and play from there’… it’s utter rubbish to play like that all of the time.”
