The Northern Irishman had lost 4-2 to four-times world champion John Higgins in his opening match of the competition a fortnight ago, but was always the likelier player among the balls after dropping the first frame to Ebdon.
Breaks of 84, 76 and 50 earned Allen a 3-1 lead. Ebdon gave himself the chance of a draw with a run of 108 in the fifth frame, but Allen finished matters off with a 69 to leave him alongside Ebdon on two points from two matches.
In the night's other match, Shaun Murphy established a 2-1 lead against fellow former world champion Neil Robertson aided by a run of 111 in the third frame before Robertson levelled with a 70 in the fourth frame. The Australian then rolled in a 113 to move 3-2 clear before a knock of 58 sealed a 4-2 win well past 23:00.
“That was a good win considering I’m playing with a new cue that I’ve only had a couple of days,” said Robertson.
