Ally McCoist branded Rangers' 2-0 win over Malmo as their BEST performance in years.

But the Ibrox legend insists Philippe Clement's side must be more ruthless in front of goal. Nedim Bajrami's fired Gers in front after just 56 SECONDS before Ross McCausland netted a late clincher to secure an impressive three points in Sweden. The scoreline could and should have been more emphatic though, with Vaclav Cerny and Cyriel Dessers guilty of squandering golden opportunities.

And McCoist - the Govan club's greatest-ever goalscorer - says the Light Blues must be more clinical against better opposition. He told TNT Sports: "You look at the chances, they were proper chances. You're thinking to yourself, 'Could this come back and bite us?'.

"Cerny is through on the goalkeeper, Dessers has had great chances to score and just go and put the game beyond any shadow of doubt at all. That will have to improve. You get away with it occasionally. You might get away it in some of the Scottish games in the league and you'll very occasionally get away with it in Europe.

"But when you come up against far better opposition and you don't take your chances, you know what will happen? You won't win the game. It seems a bit harsh to be sitting here talking about missed chances when Rangers have had a fantastic result. But the fact of the matter is, it was a great performance, a great result - but sharpen up the finishing lads and we'll be absolutely delighted!"

It was a night when Rangers recorded their first-ever victory against Swedish opposition and McCoist hopes the morale-boosting result can lift the mood around Ibrox. He said: "It's a wonderful performance and result, but in isolation, that's all it is. You have to build on it and take something from it. It's been a bizarre time behind the scenes at Rangers and has created a lot of uncertainty.

"The lads on the pitch have to attempt to put that behind them. Look at that performance and result tonight, that's what we're capable of. That's the best I've seen Rangers in a long, long time. I'm loathe to get carried away because you have to counter it by saying, good result, good 90 minutes but you have to build on it. You have to regroup, watch it again and look at what you can do better - we can certainly finish better."
