ALPINE SKIING Chemmy Alcott of Great Britain

Alcott will return to the World Cup circuit at this week's downhill in Cortina d'Ampezzo, her first competition since re-fracturing the broken leg injury that had threatened her career.

But she acknowledges time is running out to prove her fitness and speed to a earn a place on a fourth British Olympic team in Sochi.

"I have taken on a mammoth task, I knew it was going to be tough," said Alcott, who finished 11th in the downhill in Turin and super-combined in Vancouver.

"Four and a half months ago I lay in hospital after surgery in Zurich and I committed everything I have to coming back and being ready for Sochi.

"I have dealt well with adversity in the past but trying to return to form mid season with few training days and none in race conditions is a first for me."

But Alcott, writing on her Facebook page, concedes she can't hold back, if she is to underline her credentials to selectors, with Cortina d'Ampezzo the venue where she claimed her first World Cup top ten in 2004.

"I am not deluded, I know I need to now push the line, be more aggressive and ski bigger angles and the challenge is this needs to happen by this weekend," she added.

"I am a warrior and I know it can happen. I need to build confidence in training runs and execute a flawless race. It will take all my mental strength to achieve but this is my last shot and I have always believed in shooting for the sky."
