Altintop leaves Real for Turkey

Turkey international midfielder Hamit Altintop has left Real Madrid for Galatasaray on a four-year contract.

The former Schalke and Bayern Munich midfielder, 29, joined Real Madrid last summer but barely featured for the Liga champions, playing only five league matches and scoring once.

The announcement was made on Galatasaray's website, which confirmed the length of the deal to the Turkish stock exchange.

Born and raised in Germany, Altintop had never played in Turkey before although has made 73 appearances for the national team, scoring seven goals.

Fellow German-Turkish player Nuri Sahin is also expected to leave the Bernabeu this summer after failing to make an impact following his move from Borussia Dortmund.
