WIMBORNE Town have plumped for another Dorchester Town player by bringing in Oakley Hanger from their Dorset neighbours.

Hanger came through the ranks at the County town club to become a first team regular for Dorch, going on to make 120 appearances.

He joins former Dorch captain Ashley Wells at the New Cuthbury, following the veteran defender in switching between Dorset’s two Magpies.

A right-back by trade, Hanger’s impressive performances for Dorchester last campaign helped them stave off the drop – at the expense of new club Wimborne.

James Stokoe’s Magpies have been the busiest club in the local area in terms of early transfer business, tying down five players and adding two new faces ahead of the new campaign.

According to new signing Hanger, the Magpies are looking for an immediate return to the Southern League Premier South.

Speaking to Wimborne’s website, Hanger said: “I’m really looking forward to getting started at New Cuthbury.

“Leaving your home town club, where you have played over 120 games is never an easy decision.

“However, when I came to visit the new ground and spoke to James (Stokoe), I knew I wanted to be part of what he is rebuilding.

“I am keen to help us fight for the title and promotion, and feel that everyone associated with the club is in the same boat.

“I look forward to meeting all the new faces and hope to excite the fans and play a vital role in our success for the 2022-23 season.”

Manager Stokoe added: “I’m really pleased Oakley has agreed to join us for the upcoming season.

“Every time I’ve watched him play he’s been excellent.

“He gets up and down the pitch very well and has good delivery, he’s a solid right back and will help improve our defence.

“He’s also a very good character to have around the ground.”
