Amanda Anisimova withdraws from US Open following death of her father

Amanda Anisimova has withdrawn from the US Open following the death of her father.

The 17-year-old, seeded 24th in the WTA rankings and the youngest player inside the top 100, was expected to shine at Flushing Meadows after rising to prominence in 2019.

But Anisimova has pulled out of the tournament after her father and long-time coach, Konstantin, was found dead on Monday.

While the family are yet to comment on his passing, the player's agent confirmed the news to ESPN.

Coco Gauff offered her support to her compatriot, tweeting: "Deepest condolences to the Anisimova family during this tragic time."

Anisimova, who was born in the United States to Russian parents, made the headlines in May when she knocked out Simona Halep to reach the semi-finals of the French Open.

A US Open junior champion in 2017, the highly-rated teenager was expected to make her mark at the US Open this year.

However, her participation was already in doubt after she was forced to withdraw from events in Toronto and Cincinnati due to a back problem.
