Amazon job cuts will not affect employees in Sussex, The Argus understands.

An update from the company shared today announced that 9,000 people are set to lose their jobs as part of a new wave of cuts.

However, The Argus understands that these cuts will not affect the Amazon warehouse in Littlehampton.

Announcing the international cuts, Amazon chief executive Andy Jassy said: “Given the uncertain economy in which we reside, and the uncertainty that exists in the near future, we have chosen to be more streamlined in our costs and headcount.

“We will, of course, support those we have to let go, and will provide packages that include a separation payment, transitional health insurance benefits, and external job placement support.

“To those ultimately impacted by these reductions, I want to thank you for the work you have done on behalf of customers and the company. It’s never easy to say goodbye to our teammates, and you will be missed.”

The statement from Amazon shared that the job cuts would be hitting AWS, Amazon’s cloud computing branch, as well as live streaming service Twitch, advertising and People Experience and Technology team.

Amazon employs 1.5 million people worldwide including many at the warehouse in Norway Lane, Littlehampton.
