Amazon to remove 'hugely distasteful' coronavirus Halloween masks

Amazon is removing a series of "hugely distasteful" coronavirus-themed Halloween masks that are being sold on its platform.

The latex heads are being sold for £14.59 by YTFU EU, according to the online listing. The firm is listed as being based in Guangdong, China.

The "Corona Halloween Mask" and "Corona Latex Horror Mask" resemble the microscopic Covid-19 virus.

The product description says the mask will frighten "everyone at the party" and will leave an "amazing and lasting impression".

Rachel Power, Chief Executive of the Patients Association, told the Sun: “These masks show a terrible lapse of judgement by the manufacturers and sellers, and I hope they will be removed from sale quickly.

“I’ve no doubt the great majority of people will find them hugely distasteful, and I can’t imagine that many people would wish to wear one.”

More than 40,000 Brits have lost their lives since the beginning of the pandemic in March.

The global coronavirus death toll passed the grim milestone of one million this week.

An Amazon spokesperson said: "All sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who do not will be subject to action including potential removal of their account.

“We are removing this product."
