Jack Harrison looks set to be the subject of a transfer tussle between Newcastle and Tottenham after a report revealed the Magpies’ interest in him.

The left winger has impressed during two seasons with Leeds in the Premier League. During his first campaign in the division, he notched eight goals and eight assists as the Whites finished ninth.

The 25-year-old began the current season slowly, only finding the net on his 16th Premier League appearance. But his form improved and he went on to register 10 goals in all competitions, as well as two assists.

Harrison’s most important goal came on the Prem’s final day. He beat Brentford goalkeeper David Raya with a deflected strike to make it 2-1 at the Brentford Community Stadium.

That goal ensured Jesse Marsch’s team remained in the top flight for another term, with Burnley going down instead.

However, it could be Harrison’s last act in a Whites shirt as reports put him in line for a big-money transfer this summer.

Before the final day, The Telegraph claimed Tottenham hold an interest in the Stoke-born wide man.

A new report from the same outlet puts Newcastle on his trail, too. They apparently want to take Harrison to St James’ Park as part of a major revamp under Eddie Howe.

Jack Harrison eyed by Newcastle officials

Magpies chiefs believe capturing Harrison would help to take Howe’s side to the next level. They finished 11th in the season just finished and are eyeing up a place in the top 10 ready for 2022-23.

Howe can currently utilise Allan Saint-Maximin and Ryan Fraser on the left flank, while Jacob Murphy tends to play on the right.

Newcastle’s interest in Harrison suggests the Tyneside outfit may be open to selling Saint-Maximin in the upcoming transfer window.

And replacing the Frenchman with Harrison could work, as the latter’s crossing ability would make him a good team-mate for strikers Callum Wilson and Chris Wood.

Harrison’s Leeds contract runs until June 2024. But he may be tempted into a move away from Elland Road in the near future.

Both Newcastle and Tottenham can offer him a handsome wage increase. Plus, Spurs will compete in the Champions League next season – while Newcastle have aspirations of getting there themselves.

Newcastle could return for January target

The report also reveals Newcastle are planning to go back in for Dutch centre-back Sven Botman.

The 22-year-old, who currently plays for Lille, was a target for Howe and co. in January. But they couldn’t get a deal over the line and Botman spent the remainder of the season in France.

Newcastle are weighing up whether to make an improved bid for the defender, which could help them to finally strike a deal.

A transfer window involving the additions of Harrison and Botman would be a great one for Newcastle.

Harrison is already a regular performer in the Prem, while Botman has bags of potential and is a Ligue 1 champion, despite his tender age.

But Spurs like Harrison and AC Milan are pursuing Botman, so things definitely won’t be easy for Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are behind a Premier League rival in the pursuit of Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
