American Alexander Rossi is Hopeful He'll Have an F1 Seat In 2016

Alexander Rossi joined IndyCar after Manor demoted him to reserve driver. Now, Manor wants him full-time. Wonder why...

From Road & Track

We're big fans of Alexander Rossi here at Road & Track. He's one of only a handful of Americans to ever compete in Formula 1 and he's kind enough to share his experiences with our Marshall Pruett. That's why we're happy to hear that Rossi said things are "looking positive" for a spot on the F1 grid in 2016, in an interview with Sky Sports .

Last year, Rossi drove in a handful of Grands Prix for Manor Marussia after doing years of work a test driver for Manor Marussia and earlier, Caterham. For 2016, Manor is the only F1 team yet to confirm its driver lineup, opening the possibility for Rossi to finally have a permanent seat on the grid.

"Talks are every day. I think the deadline is really when cars roll in Barcelona in a couple of weeks," said Rossi, speaking to Sky Sports.

"Things sometimes get pushed out in this sport and it is something I am used to and hopefully it doesn't go on to much longer. Things are looking positive and hopefully we get it done very soon."

The 2016 F1 season will see its first U.S. team in over 30 years, thanks to Haas F1, but Haas won't field any U.S. drivers. Rossi would likely be the only U.S. driver on the grid if he can snag a seat with Manor.

We're pulling for you, Rossi. America is pulling for you.
