Anderson Silva Underwent Successful Gallbladder Surgery
Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva underwent successful surgery to have his gallbladder removed Wednesday morning at the Samaritan Hospital in Rio de Janeiro, his manager, Jorge Guimaraes, told MMAWeekly.com.
“Late in the afternoon (on Tuesday), we get the call (Silva's) violently ill, he's throwing up, and everything else,” UFC president Dana White recounted on Wednesday's edition of the Kevin and Bean Show.

“Ends up, (Wednesday) morning at 7:30, he went in for surgery. He had a problem with his gallbladder. I don't know if they removed it or what they did, but he was in surgery for almost two hours. It's crazy.”
The surgery went well according to Silva's doctor, Marcio Tannure, who said that there was no cause for Silva's inflamed gallbladder. Apparently, cholecystitis (an inflamed gallbladder) can happen at any time.
“He had the operation and everything went well, as expected. He should be released on Friday. This surgery requires from four to six weeks of rest before he can resume his activities.”
After Silva had to drop out of his UFC 198 bout with Uriah Hall, UFC officials tried to find a new opponent, but couldn't find one in time. So now, Hall is also off of the fight card. With their fight removed, a bout between Warlley Alves and Bryan Barberena will open the pay-per-view. Taking the place of that bout on the Fox Sports 1 prelims is Francisco Trinaldo vs. Yancy Medeiros.
