Ange Postecoglou delivers double Tottenham injury update after Aston Villa with Romero worry
Ange Postecoglou has offered a cautious update on Tottenham's latest injury setbacks after both Richarlison and Cristian Romero had to be taken off in the second half against Aston Villa. Spurs went on to win 4-1 after late goals from Dominic Solanke and James Maddison but had been forced once more into changes due to issues picked up during the game.
Just days after losing Micky van de Ven in the victory over Manchester City, Tottenham's backline was reshuffled again. With the game still level, Romero was substituted for Ben Davies. He had been playing through pain in midweek himself.
After fouling Villa attacker Morgan Rogers, Romero was booked but stayed down, appearing to be in some pain. Speaking afterwards, Postecoglou admitted that something had come up.
"Romero's was in that challenge he felt his foot was sore," the head coach explained. "He's a tough cookie so for him to come off it must have been painful."
Without the Argentine, Tottenham eventually clicked into top gear. Solanke scored twice in a matter of minutes to get some reward for the territorial dominance showed, and victory was sown up.
Richarlison went off having laid on for Solanke in the second of those goals. He could be seen holding the back of his left hamstring immediately after squaring the ball, and went to the advertising board in order to get some support during the celebrations.

The Brazilian was down on the turf and being helped by physios soon after. His cameo helped Tottenham to win but came at a personal cost, the next in a growing line of fitness issues for the striker.
"Richy felt something in the action of setting the goal up," Postecglou said. "I don't know much about [the injuries] yet." Spurs will be hopeful of having both back before long as they continue to nurse Son Heung-Min back to full fitness, and Van de Van leaving the defensive options short.
