Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham could soon be presented with perfect summer transfer opportunity

Tottenham have already made a move when it comes to adding to their squad for the 2024/25 campaign. Amid the question marks over Timo Werner's future, Spurs have struck another agreement with RB Leipzig and have re-signed the attacker on a season-long loan.

The Lilywhites have plenty to do in the transfer market over the next couple of months and hopefully the loan signing of Werner will just be the start of things to come. As well as more attacking incomings, Ange Postecoglou has already admitted that a new centre-back is needed as the club plan ahead for the future.

Staying in that area of the pitch, alternatives at right-back and left-back could also be on the club's shopping list as there is a notable drop-off in those positions when Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie are absent from the team. Tottenham are well stocked in midfield as things stand but the opportunity may be there for Postecoglou and Johan Lange to add even more quality to the middle of the park with others expected to depart.

The future of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher will very much be in the headlines this summer and all will become clear regarding what lies ahead for the England international in the coming weeks and months. The 24-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last summer but a transfer never came to fruition.

A player with all the qualities to be a big hit in Postecoglou's Spurs system, the Australian is believed to be a big fan of the Chelsea ace and talk over a switch across the capital has showed no sign of going away over the past year. Following some initial doubts over whether Gallagher would play a key role under Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge, the versatile midfielder made 50 appearances in all competitions in 2023/24, scoring seven goals and assisting nine in the process.

Gallagher started 37 of their 38 Premier League matches, with a one-match suspension in December ruling him out of the Manchester United game and stopping him from becoming an ever-present over the course of the campaign. He even captained the Blues in 24 of those league games, thus highlighting the pivotal role he had in Pochettino's thinking.

Already with question marks surrounding his long-term Chelsea future this summer as he will enter the final 12 months of his contract come the start of July, the exit of Pochettino has cast further doubt over what comes next for Gallagher. Incoming head coach Enzo Maresca could well have different ideas for Chelsea's midfield once he is confirmed in the Stamford Bridge hotseat and gets his plans in place for the 2024/25 campaign.

The west London club do have options in midfield as things stand, with Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo both regulars in the team during Pochettino's tenure. There will also be Romeo Lavia to consider from next season after the ex-Southampton man was restricted to only one appearances during his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge following an injury nightmare.

Chelsea also need to sanction transfer outgoings this summer to adhere to Profit and Sustainability rules. With some clubs needing to get deals over the line before June 30 in order to meet their requirements, Gallagher is a potential candidate to help Chelsea balance the books.

That in turn could present Tottenham and other interested clubs to strike a deal for Gallagher and potentially save some money in the process. What could make things tricky before the end of June, however, is that the player has been named in England's 33-man provisional squad for Euro 2024 and he will be expected to be named in the final 26 for the flight to Germany.

Even if Gallagher remains at Stamford Bridge after June 30, there could be an opportunity there to save even more money with the player entering the final year of his deal. Such a key player for Chelsea last season, Gallagher may well be lining up in the colours of another club come the start of the 2024/25 Premier League term.

Following all that speculation over Gallagher swapping Chelsea for Tottenham 12 months ago, now could be the perfect opportunity for Postecoglou to get his man and strengthen his Spurs midfield in the process.
