Boss Daniel Farke was left with mixed emotions as Leeds United stretched their lead at the top of the Championship to five points after recording a 2-0 win at Coventry City this evening.

The visitors dominated the first half, taking the lead in the 17th minute through Joel Piroe. The Dutchman fired home after receiving Manor Solomon's pass. It was Piroe's 13th goal of the season.

Things got even better for the Whites in the 26th minute when Jayden Bogle doubled their advantage after tricking his way into the penalty area.

The margin of United's victory could have been greater but they missed a number of gilt-edged opportunities after the break. Goalkeeper Illan Meslier also pulled off a number of crucial saves as the Sky Blues threatened a second half fightback.

Farke said: "Overall, a great night and a pretty important win. Such a tough place to come. We were aware Coventry were in top form. To come here and get a deserved win, I'm happy with so any details.

"Impressed with our pressing, counter-pressing. Fifth clean sheet in a row.

"We were wasteful with our chances. We have to be more efficient. You can't waste too many chances.

"The 2-0 win is great but I think we should have had two clear penalties. Crazy how we don't get a penalty from [Brenden] Aaronson. Not sure how the last goal [Wilfried Gnonto] is offside. I know it's difficult but it was a goal that should have bee allowed.

"I'm a bit critical of our cutting edge; we missed too many 1v1s. Against a really good side it can be really costly.

"Meslier was there today with two outstanding saves. If they score in the 91st minute then they have three minutes to go and anything can happen. So we have to bury the game before.

"Only thing I can criticise. It was a top class performance from our boys."

Farke was left "annoyed" that captain Ethan Ampadu picked up a yellow card in the first half of the contest. The German added: "Annoyed that my left-back complained to the referee instead of getting back (into position). There were a few situations in the game where we were not spot on.

"We shouldn't get a yellow card in the opponents box when we have a corner. A few details I'm not happy with but to win at such a difficult away place I can't be too moody. A little bit away from perfect performance."

Victory over the Sky Blues sees United move five points clear at the summit as they look to secure promotion back to the Premier League. It is now 13 league matches without defeat for Farke's men.
