West Bromwich Albion Fan View: Another away trip, another failure?

Oh there is is, that overriding feeling of disappointment, hello again. Albion drop points in the latter stages of a game once more, Just as they’ve done against Stoke and Watford earlier in the season. But, the actual end result wasn’t the main reason for my disappointment.

Leicester were low on confidence, their players were off the pace and they look a million miles away from the side that won the Premier League a few seasons ago. So why oh why did we insist, yet again, on playing three defensive midfielders in the middle of the park?

But some fans may argue that it gets results, but does it?

West Brom have won just two of their last 17 Premier League games, and have now stretched their winless run to six games after the draw at The King Power.

Nacer Chadli showed promise on his return to the fold, and his free kick was top drawer, but how many shots do you think we had on target against a struggling team?

Nacer Chadli’s magnificent free-kick was The Baggies only shot on target against Leicester.

The Baggies registered just one shot on target, which was Nacer Chadli’s long-range free-kick. That is nowhere near enough to win football matches in the Premier League.

Despite this, I have no doubts whatsoever that Tony Pulis will try the exact same thing at Southampton on Saturday. He will try and frustrate the opposition, by sitting back and absorbing all the pressure from the opposition, with Salomon Rondon isolated to such an extent that he’d probably have enough time to phone his mates and organise his Saturday night plans.

Pulis said that Albion need to score more goals in his pre-match press conference, and I’d certainly agree with him, but what is he doing about it?

I’m not asking for gung-ho football, all I’d like to see is Nacer Chadli given a free role behind the striker and have just the two sitting midfielders, with Matt Phillips and Jay Rodriguez either side. Let’s see what Tony Pulis does on Saturday, but I’m not holding my breath.
