Anthony Gordon has clear stance on Newcastle contract offer after failed Liverpool move
Anthony Gordon is said to be closing in on a new contract at Newcastle, with speculation surrounding his long-term future at the club seemingly set to be put to bed.
Liverpool was interested in signing the winger during the summer transfer window, with the Magpies initially seemingly open to selling the former Everton man as they aimed to comply with the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules.
However, in the end, Newcastle ended up selling other players in order to resolve its PSR issues, bringing in significant fees for Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh from Nottingham Forest and Brighton respectively, and those deals ended up facilitating Gordon staying at Newcastle.

The Mail reports that positive talks have taken place in recent weeks and that an agreement is not far away, with Gordon said to be happy in the North East despite interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.
Gordon is reportedly keen to rediscover his best form for Newcastle after a relatively slow start to the season. The 23-year-old has registered one goal and no assists in six appearances so far after tallying 12 goals and 11 assists last term.
The report about Gordon being close to signing a new contract at Merseyside comes as The Telegraph claims that Gordon told his England teammates during the summer that he would be joining Liverpool ahead of the new season.
It is claimed that Gordon was distracted by the interest from Liverpool during the summer, and that Gareth Southgate barely used him during the European Championship for that reason.
When the move to Liverpool fell through, Gordon was unsurprisingly said to be disappointed, but it is claimed that he has remained professional throughout and is intent on rediscovering his best level.
