Anthony Gordon, Kingsley Coman, Raheem Sterling and Arsenal's best and worst case deadline day
Arsenal have entered the final and for the first time in a couple of years, the summer transfer window has indeed left an air of mystery and anticipation to its last hours. The Gunners have needs in multiple areas despite such little time remaining and all the planning that went on months ago.
Sporting director Edu Gaspar has worked to complete a host of incomings and outgoings and overhaul the club’s sales reputation with exits for the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah and Aaron Ramsdale. Mikel Merino and Riccardo Calafiori have reinforced the starting quality of the squad.
Yet with the clock ticking down, football.london take a look at what both the best-case and worst-case scenarios could be this Friday. Arsenal landed a favourable European draw in the Champions League on Thursday evening, and the hope is that this fortune will extend into their last-minute transfer moves.
Worst-case
In short, Arsenal sign no one. It might seem like it ends there for Arsenal in terms of what the nightmare situation this deadline day might be but believe it or not there are indeed worse outcomes than simply not adding the players they need.
Should Aaron Ramsdale’s move still go through and neither Neto nor Joan Garcia arrive as his replacement, Arsenal will be left with 18-year-old Tommy Setford as their number two until at least January. Signed from Ajax this summer, while considered a potential future star, the young adult is far from ready.
Furthermore, in the forward line, both Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson could still leave before the deadline. If this happens without signing any players up top, it could leave Mikel Arteta incredibly short in his striker and winger options for the next four months leaving three positions without the needed quality in depth.

Best-case
On the other hand, the best-case scenario sees the Sobha Realty Training Centre become a hub of activity on deadline day as the club lands their two key targets in the forward line and between the sticks. Neto appears to be the favoured option by the club with a move for Joan Garcia not looking financially viable and a single-season loan for an experienced Premier League player could be the exact profile needed with the market as it stands.
In the forward line, Nico Williams would be a dream option for Arsenal but with the outlook being so bleak on the morning of deadline day, any player might be better than no player. This includes players like Raheem Sterling or the injury-prone Kingsley Coman who have both been talked about.
Jadon Sancho’s future remains in the balance and even Newcastle Anthony Gordon has been suggested. It could be that fans are treated to a surprise wide forward this Friday, and it is definitely a possibility considering previous years for the Gunners.
