For context...

Joshua is under 17 stone for the first time since 2014, having once peaked at 18st 2lbs when he fought Carlos Takam in 2017.

The Londoner has dropped 10 lbs since he fought Ruiz Jr in June.

1:48PM

All very civil between the two of them...

No shenanigans or handbags. That is it, return to these pages tomorrow night to follow all the action from the 'Clash on the Duners'. Gareth A Davies and Oliver Brown will be there with a full report and analysis.

1:47PM

Ruiz weighs-in

20st 3lbs, which is considerably heavier than Joshua.

Joshua weighs in

Headphones on....16 st 13lbs. That's 237 lbs.

1:43PM

Here we go...

Voice of Boxing Michael Buffer takes over proceedings for the main event. Starts with a thank you to sponsors, and there are several.

Here comes Joshua, followed by Ruiz in a Sombrero and vest.

1:39PM

The penultimate weigh-in

Alexander Povetkin and Michael Hunter. Povetkin is another of the challengers Joshua saw off when he was champ.

1:34PM

Dillian Whyte up now

The body snatcher faces Mariusz Wach, who weighs in at 19 st 4lbs.

Whyte tips the scales at 19st 5lbs.

1:31PM

One of Joshua's old foes on the stage now

Eric Molina will take on Filip Hrgovic. Croatian Hrgovic is know was 'The Animal', potentially the last words you want to hear when you step into the ring with someone, but that does not worry Molina: "But I feel for this kid, this kid is very inexperienced. I'm going to be able to put him in some moments where he hasn't been before and when I get in those moments, I have to execute and make him pay."

1:26PM

On we go...

Gov.uk official advice tells me men are not supposed to wear shorts - or expose their knees to be more precise - in Saudi Arabia, so a dozen boxers stripping down must be an arresting sight. No buckets of cold water necessary, I'm pleased to report.

Our MC is wearing a Trilby hat and three-piece suit. In the words of legendary darts commentator Sid Waddell, he must be sweating like a donkey in a shower.

1:17PM

Building up to the main event

Selemani Saidi and Diego Pacheco are up now in Diriyah as we work our way towards Joshua and Ruiz Jr.

It's an outdoor venue for the weigh-in, with the late evening sun bathing the stage in light. Eddie Hearn has gone for chinos and white trainers, the staple look of the upwardly mobile sports-management jet set.

Mmajid al Naqbi and Ilia Beruashvili at the scales now.

1:09PM

While you're here

Here is a long read by Oliver Brown on Joshua's aristocratic Nigerian heritage. Quite the tale.

12:58PM

Not long to wait now

The weigh-in should commence in the next few minutes but as always we will start with the undercard. Here are fights that will precede the main event on Saturday night:

Anthony Joshua has dropped some weight

Eddie Hearn explains:

“It’s not intentional that he has been dieting to lose weight. He has cut out a lot of strength and conditioning work. This camp has been all boxing-related: rounds and rounds of sparring and technique. When I saw him in New York, he looked drained, because he had worked his b------- off in camp. I hope he doesn’t feel like that now."

12:27PM

The tale of the tape

Weights to follow of course. That's why we are here.

12:13PM

If you read one thing today

This dispatch from Saudi Arabia by Oliver Brown is a discomforting but brilliant read, on the geopolitical and moral context around this fight. If the words 'Committee for the Promotion of Virtue' don't send a chill down the spine, nothing will. Here is a taster:

The creep of globalisation is not by itself a validation of Saudi Arabia’s worthiness as sporting hosts, still less of its supposed embrace of modernity. True, there are now 10 Victoria’s Secret lingerie boutiques in Riyadh. But the fierce gender segregation laws, and the requirement for women to wear long black abaya robes in public, attest to the power of patriarchy. And yes, there is now a Dunkin’ Donuts on the corner of Alsafat Square. But in the square itself, there continue to be public executions on Fridays.

A lighter Joshua weighs in for his redemption fight

Good afternoon and welcome to our live coverage of this much anticipated weigh-in as the clock ticks down to Anthony Joshua's rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr.

There will be genuine interest when Joshua tips the scales because pictures from his training camp suggest he has lost some muscle mass since the first meeting and toned down.

This fight is a pivotal juncture in Joshua's career, who would face a long road back to the top if there is a repeat of his shock defeat at Madison Square Garden in June.

Saturday's fight is being staged in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia amid widespread concerns about 'sportswashing' and the autocratic, repressive Gulf state using international events to normalise the regime.

On that subject, Joshua said: "I just came here for the boxing opportunity. I look around and everyone seems pretty happy and chilled. I've not seen anyone in a negative light out here, everyone seems to be having a good time.

"As an individual I try to bring positivity and light everywhere I go. I'm just seeing it from my eyes alone but for sure the country in itself is trying to do a good job politically.

"For the sporting side of things, I just feel I've got a fight to focus on."

Joshua is four inches taller than Ruiz and has eight inches more reach than his opponent, who knocked Joshua down four times before forcing at technical knockout in the seventh round of their first meeting.

With Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury due to fight again in early 2020, Joshua needs a redemption victory to put himself in the frame for a tantalising unification fight.

The defeat against Ruiz was one of the shock results in the sport's recent history, with 1/33 favourite Joshua toppled by the Mexican-American.

More news as we get in.
