Antonio Conte ‘has asked’ Tottenham to sign Antonin Barak this summer, who would be ‘tailor-made’ for the north London side.

Barak, who has been linked with other Premier League outfits including West Ham, has been in fine form for Hellas Verona this season, with 11 goals and four assists in 29 Serie A appearances.

A report on Friday claimed Conte has ‘demanded guarantees’ from Spurs, calling for managing director of football Fabio Paratici and others in charge at Tottenham to ‘put their hand in their wallet’ if they want him to remain in charge next season, amid interest in the Italian boss from Paris Saint-Germain.

A move for Barak could be one way to placate Conte, and Corriere di Verona (via Sport Witness) claim ‘London is calling’ for Czech international.

It’s claimed that the 27-year-old midfielder’s attributes, including his intensity and ‘propensity for goals’, are things ‘Conte has kept an eye on at a distance this season’.

The report claims that Barak’s sale this summer is ‘almost certain’, with money required to ‘reinvest and consolidate the foundations of the club’.

It’s claimed Conte ‘has asked’ Spurs ‘to buy the Czech jewel’ and the offer ‘will not be less than €25m’.

It’s hoped Tottenham’s interest will ‘light up the auction to sign Barak’, with the ‘concrete hypothesis of touching and perhaps exceeding the threshold of €25m’.

The report states that ‘Conte’s type of football is tailor-made for him’, and Barak would be moving to ‘the elite in the Premier League’.

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough legend Fabrizio Ravanelli reckons Spurs have a chance of winning the Premier League title next season with Conte at the helm.

Ravanelli said: “I believe he has been doing very well at Tottenham but when a coach, especially Conte, gets to a team, he needs time. I’m pretty sure he can make tremendous progress and achieve exactly what he has in mind.

“Tottenham has always been missing something – they never really manage to take that necessary step forward in quality. They have had a good mentality but it’s not been effective in getting the results they want.

“Now with Conte and Fabio Paratici, they will be able to make the right choices to give them the right identity to win. They will be able to then possibly win the Premier League in this way. Next year will be the turning point.”

Ravanelli added: “This year they have less chance than Arsenal [to get top four] but knowing Conte, in these moments, he always wins duels. He is so focused and so determined and I’m pretty sure they will finish fourth and get into the Champions League.

“As for winning the Premier League next year, they will have to fight hard. We cannot forget Manchester City and Liverpool. Tottenham have got seven or eight excellent players.

“They need to focus on the defence because that is their main weakness. They would also need to strengthen the midfield with new signings and sign a new striker to play alongside Harry Kane.

“Kane is the best but he is not enough so they will need to strengthen there next season. It won’t be easy.”
