Antonio Conte with decision to make as Tottenham star who wants to play ‘at a high level’ will ‘leave for free’
Brazilian winger Lucas Moura admits he is open to offers and will assess his Tottenham situation at the end of the season.
The 30-year-old is currently in his fifth full season for Spurs, having joined the club from Paris Saint-Germain in January 2018. The former Brazil star has made 213 appearances in all competitions, scoring 38 goals. However, he has been surplus to requirements in the Premier League this term.
The former Sao Paulo ace has played just 90 minutes of league football from eight substitute appearances.
And he has enjoyed only 11 top-flight starts since Antonio Conte replaced Nuno Espirito Santo in the dugout.
That does not augur well for his long-term Tottenham prospects, although he has enjoyed three Champions League outings in 2022-2023.
The South American is under contract until the end of 2023-2024. However it appears as though he will consider his options next summer
“Man, my plan, to be honest, I want to play football and I want to be in a club that allows me to play at a high level,” he told Flow Sport Club.
“Play in a good league, play at a good level. That’s my plan. I still have a lot of firewood to burn, I’m 30 years old, so I’m very young.
“So my thought is to finish this season with Tottenham, try to win a title this season and, free of contract, sit down with my family and listen to the offers that will appear.”
Moura relaxed over Tottenham future
Moura remains a popular player at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He was a regular starter during his first couple of seasons at the club.
However, the man with 35 Brazil caps has seen his game time diminish over the past few years. And he is now very much on the peripheries under Conte.
Whether he remains with Spurs only time will tell but it seems as though the Sao Paulo-born star is staying level-headed about his future.
“That’s when you analyse everything: country, club, financial side,” he added. “It’s analysing everything, and then make the best decision. That’s my thought. But now, I’m very calm there.”
Moura still a fan of Tottenham
A number of clubs have been linked with a swoop for Moura. Spanish outfit Sevilla were linked in October, with the wide man admitting that LaLiga is a tempting proposition.
But nothing has been decided and staying with his present employers could well be on the cards.
“If Tottenham want to renew, cool too, a club I like a lot, I’m adapted,” he continued. “Let’s see, let’s hear the renewal proposal. If they don’t want to, I’ll leave for free, and being free, of course, more proposals appear.
“So it’s a matter of analysing and seeing what we decide.”
Without Moura in the side, Spurs went into the World Cup break sitting fourth in the league table. They have stuttered at times but still managed to win nine of 15 games.
