Antonio Conte sack talk takes massive leap forward as report reveals Tottenham rage and shock new name becomes serious contender
Reports that Antonio Conte could be facing the sack at Tottenham are gathering serious pace after a report revealed the club’s anger at their FA Cup exit this week.
The north London side have made strong strides since the Italian took charge back in November 2021. Indeed, he steered them to a top-four finish last season ahead of Arsenal, bringing with it a return to the Champions League.
But despite being allowed to spend well in excess of £200m, this has been a season of frustration for Tottenham. On paper, the club appears to be well on track. They are currently fourth in the Premier League and on track to secure another place in Europe’s premier competition.
And their prospects in this season’s Champions League are far from over. Indeed, they will go into Wednesday’s second leg of their round of 16 tie with AC Milan hopeful of reaching the last eight, despite a 1-0 loss in the first leg.
However, there has been plenty of frustrations behind the scenes. With their fans writing to chairman Daniel Levy at the direction the club is heading, there is a feeling that Spurs should be doing better than what they actually are.
And with Conte’s initial 18-month agreement due to expire this summer, doubts over his future have rarely been far away.
Indeed, Conte has often fuelled such rumours with the Italian himself suggesting he “may have to go”.
And lurking in the background is the constant shadow of former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino. Still adored by supporters and currently a free agent, there are growing theories he could return to the club this summer.

Tottenham board anger at Conte over FA Cup exit
Whether they turn to Pochettino or not, talk that Conte could even be removed from his position before the season is out are gathering pace.
Indeed, The Sun claims the Tottenham board are spitting feathers at Conte following their FA Cup exit this week.
Having not won a trophy since their League Cup triumph in 2008, Spurs reportedly saw the FA Cup as a golden chance to end that wait. But facing a trip to Championship side Sheffield United, Spurs crashed out 1-0 with a quarter-finals place on offer.
Conte is currently sidelined following gallbladder surgery. And while assistant Cristian Stellini is currently in charge, it’s understood Conte is still selecting the side during his recuperation.
Indeed, their trip to Bramall Lane saw Harry Kane starting among the substitutes. With a run of crucial matches against Wolves and Milan coming up, Conte rested their all-time record goalscorer.
But their toothless display saw the club crash out in South Yorkshire and end with it their chances of winning some silverware.
Raging at their exit, Levy and Co were reportedly left further enraged by Stellini’s decision to defend their team selections.
Speaking after the game, Stellini said: “I was disappointed. It’s normal that everyone shows anger after the game.
“Maybe it was time to show (the players) a different face.”
Conte will be back in the dugout for the clash with Milan, though will again miss Saturday’s trip to Molineux.
Stellini revealed: “Antonio’s frustration at not being here is huge.”
Steve Cooper could reportedly replace Conte at Tottenham
With Tottenham seemingly considering their options, a report claims Levy is considering a surprise move to appoint Conte’s successor.
And rather than turn back towards Pochettino, journalist Dean Jones claims Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper is now also in the mix.
The 43-year-old Welshman has done an excellent job in charge at the City Ground during his time in charge. Taking them from near the foot of the Championship, they are currently 13th in the Premier League.
Survival in their first season back among the elite would rubberstamp his credentials as a top coach.
Now Jones has told Givemesport that Cooper is very much under consideration by Tottenham.
And they claim that even if Tottenham do not make a move, Forest face a tough task keeping Cooper.
His potential appointment by Spurs would certainly come as a surprise, that said.
What would not come as a shock, however, would be if Conte was to depart. And while we cannot see his exit happening just yet, don’t be surprised if he walks away this summer.
