Manchester United are desperately trying to sign Antony from Ajax, while the Dutch club are doing all they can to keep him and boss Alfred Schreuder has spoken about a potential deal.

United are trying to get a fee agreed with Ajax for the attacker after negotiating a five-year contract. John Murtough and Richard Arnold have seen two offers rejected for the Brazilian and a third offer is more than likely.

Ajax are believed to have set the asking price at £79.6m and United will have to get very close to that to push through a transfer.

De Telegraaf reports that Antony has told Ajax of his intentions to leave by submitting an official request to leave. And reporter Mike Vermijl claims Antony’s agents have set themselves up in London near United’s offices for the next week to help push through a deal.

Vermijl claims another meeting between Antony and Ajax took place at 11.00am on Friday. Neither party are expected to shift their stance.

And Schreuder, speaking after Champions League draw, made it clear he wants the 22-year-old in his squad.

“I also expect him to stay. Why? Because I’m his coach. But of course it’s not up to me. I don’t decide who will or will not be sold. But I’m counting on him to stay,” he told De Telegraaf.

“I think €80m is an incredible amount of money and I have that with €100m. But we’ve already let a lot of players go.

“We want to keep a strong squad. And new players have arrived. We have also told them what our plans are.”

Antony hint from Arnold

Ajax have already lost Lisandro Martinez to United. While Sebastian Haller, Ryan Gravenberch, Perr Schuurs, Nicolas Tagliafico and Dominik Kotarsi have also moved on.

United paid a guaranteed £48.3m for Argentina international Martinez. They will pay an additional £8.4m in add-ons after the 24-year-old linked up again with Erik ten Hag.

And Martinez made a brilliant start to his United career with a forceful display in the 2-1 win over Liverpool.

Earlier this week, in a video clip shared on social media, CEO Arnold was seen nodding when asked about Antony.

One fan repeatedly asked if the club were going to sign Antony. And Arnold appeared to give a subtle nod just before he entered the car outside Old Trafford.
