'Alli can be as good as Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes and Gascoigne' - Ex-Tottenham boss Redknapp hails midfielder

Dele Alli “could play for anyone” and is good enough to emulate the achievements of Premier League legends such as Steven Gerrard and Paul Scholes, says Harry Redknapp.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been starring again for Tottenham and England this season, with 20 goals netted for club and country.

His exploits are starting to draw admiring glances from afar, with La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid among those said to be closely monitoring his development.

'If Pogba cost £89m, what is Alli worth?'

Former Spurs boss Redknapp believes Alli is capable of gracing the grandest of stages, but also feels that he can scale those heights at White Hart Lane.

He told talkSPORT: “Dele Alli could play for anyone – he’s that good. He’s an amazing talent.

“But Tottenham are a big club! Everything is in place there –the training ground is fantastic, they’ve got a new stadium coming, they’re probably going to finish second this year and they have a lot of young players who can only get better.

“The future looks fantastic for Tottenham and you’d like to see Alli stay there, with Harry Kane and some of the other youngster players.

“Hopefully they can push on from there and look to win the title, which would be fantastic for them.”

Redknapp has also tipped Alli to prove himself over a number of years and eventually occupy a standing alongside some iconic figures from the English game.

Alli on incredible early-career run

He added: “It’s just amazing that he was playing at MK Dons only two seasons ago.

“Kevin Hitchcock, who was my goalkeeper coach at QPR, his boy was on loan there so he used to watch them quite regularly. He used to come back and say to me, ‘this kid is unbelievable’. We [QPR] were never going to sign him –he was always going to go to a big club, but nobody actually took the plunge until Tottenham came in, and what a player they’ve signed!

“You talk about Lampard, Gerrard, Scholes, Gascoigne–I think he’ll be up with them and he’s still only 20. What a talent!”
