'There's relief in my heart' - Akande revels in Rivers United's win vs. Remo Stars

The Pride of Rivers captain has appealed to the state governor to help clear the outstanding fees before the upcoming season starts

Rivers United goalkeeper, Abiodun Akande is excited with his side's win over Remo Stars in a rescheduled Nigerian topflight encounter on Wednesday afternoon.

The CAF Confederations Cup campaigners have endured an underwhelming start to the 2016/17 campaign. And coming off a loss against Nasarawa United, the Pride of Rivers gave a positive response by seeing off the Sky Blue Stars 1-0 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium.

Akande, who gave a good account of himself in the game, was over the moon after the victory over Fatai Osho's side.

"After the loss to Nasarawa United we wanted to put smiles on the faces of our supporters and we are happy we did that. You don't understand how I feel right now. There is relief in my heart," Akande told Goal.

"This result against Remo Stars is an important one for us and it will go a long way in giving us confidence on what lies ahead of the team. It is an attestation to the fact that this team is improving.

"We are all delighted with the victory. We played according to the match plan and scored at the right time.

"Remo Stars gave us a good game but we showed them why the three points was more important to us."

The Pride of Rivers are 15th in the Nigeria Professional Football League table with 23 points from 18 matches.
