An extended stay at Arsenal for Mesut Ozil could lead to Aaron Ramsey seeking a move elsewhere, says Charlie Nicholas.
The Gunners have yet to see their German playmaker commit to fresh terms, with his current contract set to expire in 2018.
Arsene Wenger has sought to curb the furore surrounding the future of key players whose deals are running down, with Alexis Sanchez in a similar situation.
He remains confident that deals will be done, but Nicholas believes any extension for Ozil could force a fellow midfielder, and a man looking to fill the number 10 post, towards the exits.
"If Ozil signs, he'll [Ramsey] go,” the former Arsenal forward told Sky Sports News.
"Because he plays that role, [Santi] Cazorla is coming back next season [even though] he's getting on in years.
"Where's he going to fit in?"
Ramsey has been with the Gunners since the summer of 2008, when he completed a move from Cardiff City.
He has been a regular under Wenger when free of injury, making 286 appearances for the club.
The Wales international has, however, often been asked to play out of his favoured position.
With Arsenal well-stocked for creative central midfielders, Ramsey has had to fill wider roles at times.
He will be hoping that his next outing comes against Crystal Palace on Monday, when he will get another opportunity to open his Premier League goal account for the season.
