Huddersfield's Scott Arfield could miss the start of the season

Huddersfield midfielder Scott Arfield could miss the start of the new season after it was discovered he has fractured a bone in his ankle.

The 23-year-old Scot sustained the injury in the first leg of the Terriers' play-off semi-final win against MK Dons in May, but only learned of the full extent after having a scan on Wednesday morning.

Arfield, who missed the second leg and returned for the second half of extra-time in the play-off final win over Sheffield United, tweeted: "Had a ct scan this morning. Fractured a bone in my ankle so need to get this sorted ASAP. Happened at the mk 1st leg. Gutted but #suchaslife."

Huddersfield paid Falkirk a fee understood to be in the region of £400,000 in the summer of 2010 for Arfield, who was a regular in the starting line-up last season, making 40 appearances and scoring two goals.
