Following their 20-13 defeat against Wales at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday, here’s the player ratings for Argentina.

15 Juan Cruz Mallia: As usual he was solid at the back and always looking for work on attack. However, he was at fault for a try from Tomos Williams, who charged down his attempted clearance before crossing the whitewash. 6

14 Mateo Carreras: The Newcastle Falcons excitement machine had some attacking opportunities and when he did receive the ball, he looked dangerous. Finished with 76 metres gained. 7

13 Matias Moroni: Another one who didn’t see much of the ball on attack and most of his efforts were restricted to defensive duties. 5

12 Jeronimo de la Fuente: Battled to get going on attack although he did look threatening on a few occasions. However, De la Fuente did not make much headway against a solid defensive effort from his opponents. 5

11 Emiliano Boffelli: Was his usual dependable self off the kicking tee and also had some good attacking moments. Eventually kicked seven points and gained 47 attacking metres. 7

10 Santiago Carreras: Unlike last weekend against England, the Gloucester man had little impact on this game and was eventually replaced by Tomás Albornoz late in the second half. 6

9 Gonzalo Bertranou: Has cemented himself as Argentina’s first choice scrum-half but did not reach his usual high standards in this encounter. Impressed on defence with 12 tackles made. 6

Strong performance from star back-row

8 Pablo Matera (c): Emptied the tank with a strong all-round effort during a busy 80-minute shift. Eventually gained 106 metres and made eight hits. 8

7 Marcos Kremer: Another willing ball carrier but did not make a big impact in that department. Was solid in defence and completed 11 tackles. 6

6 Juan Martín González: Came to the fore with a strong performance in the lineouts and was his team’s primary source of possession in that set-piece with seven balls won. Also impressed on defence with 12 hits. 7

5 Tomás Lavanini: The hardman of the Pumas pack was rather subdued in this encounter. Failed to make an impact in the physicality stakes although he was lively on defence with eight tackles made. 6

4 Matías Alemanno: Like González, he was prominent in the lineouts, winning six balls but also had a couple stolen. Was solid with ball in hand and on defence. 6

3 Francisco Gómez Kodela: Solid in the scrums during a 60-minute stint but little interesting to report in other facets of play. 6

2 Agustin Creevy: Came in as a late replacement for the injured Julian Montoya and although he led the way for Argentina on defence with 14 tackles, he made little impact in other areas. Replaced early in the second half. 6

1 Thomas Gallo: Did what was expected of him in the execution of his core duties but made little impact otherwise. 6

Replacements: Although replacement prop Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro scored a well-taken try, Argentina’s bench did not do the job which was expected of them. 5
