Argentina TV host holds a minute's silence after 3-0 defeat to Croatia at World Cup 2018

Argentinian TV presenters held a minute's silence after watching the national team lose comprehensively in their Group D match against Croatia on Thursday.

The South American nation are clinging to their place in the summer finals after winning just a point from their opening two games.

After Lionel Messi missed a penalty in the 1-1 draw with Iceland on Saturday, Croatia handed Argentina a 3-0 drubbing with goals from Ante Rebic, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic.

Rebic made the most of a goalkeeping error, Modric fired home a superb long-range effort and Rakitic completed the rout as Argentina suffered their heaviest defeat in the first round group stages since losing 6-1 to Czechoslovakia in 1958.

It means victory for Iceland in Friday's meeting with Nigeria will leave the 2014 finalists needing a convincing victory in their final group game to keep alive any hopes of remaining in the competition.

After watching Jorge Sampaoli's side collapse in the second period, punters and presenters in the TyC Sports studio marked the moment with a silent moment of reflection.
