Jurgen Klopp has pledged his full support to Arne Slot ahead of his first Premier League game in charge of Liverpool. Slot is set to get his Reds career underway against newly-promoted Ipswich Town in Saturday's early kick-off, a task that undoubtedly carries immense pressure as he steps into Klopp's shoes.

However, the German has done his utmost to ease that burden, demonstrating once again that his love for Liverpool extends beyond his tenure. Earlier in the summer Klopp made a point of speaking to Slot, who disclosed the content of their conversation - including a promise made to him.

"He gave me more than a few good tips but I think what stood out for me was that he was so happy for me," Slot explained. "I think he said this in the media as well, he would be my biggest fan from now on.

"He supports Liverpool in the best possible way, and you don't see this very often. So, it says a lot about his character, the way he handled this situation as well."

For Slot, who has only managed in his native Netherlands thus far in his coaching career - much like Klopp before his move to England - it was crucial to tap into Klopp's insights, particularly given the indelible mark he left on the city as a whole.

He elaborated: "I did the same in my former clubs when I started over there but I think if someone worked at a club for nine years, been so successful, you want to know all about it from him and you also want to know things of the players - although I think it is also important to get my own opinion about that.

"So, you can only use all this information he has because he did so well, not only in terms of results but I think also everybody saw in his farewell but also in the years before that how popular he was."

As Slot's new chapter begins, he inherits the very squad Klopp shaped, with no fresh faces arriving at Anfield so far in the summer transfer window.. Despite this continuity, Slot appears to be diverging from Klopp's blueprint, seemingly preferring a 4-2-3-1 setup in possession contrasting with his predecessor's trademark 4-3-3 formation that brought Liverpool so much success.
