Arne Slot says he is hopeful that Mohamed Salah's long-future will be resolved with a new contract at Liverpool as the head coach highlighted the forward's enduring excellence at Anfield.

Salah has scored nine goals this season but is out of contract at the end of the campaign, meaning he is able to speak to clubs outside of England about a pre-contract agreement from January 1.

The Egypt international posted a message on social media on Sunday after his winning goal in Saturday's 2-1 win over Brighton that read: "No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like."

Inevitably the cryptic post saw speculation over Salah's future once more become a topic of conversation ahead of the Reds' Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen and Slot says he hopes a resolution can be found that will see his No.11 extend his goal-laden spell on Merseyside.

“Is Salah irreplaceable? That’s not what I think about at the moment,” Slot said is quoted as telling TNT Sport Brazil.

“The only thing that I think about is that he’s so important for us, scores important goals, works hard for the team and I’m hoping that he can enjoy that feeling (scoring at Anfield) many, many many more times. Especially if I’m here.

“But even if I’m not here I’m still hoping for him that he can do this many more times. He’s been incredible for Liverpool for the past six, seven eight years, I don’t know exactly how long he’s been here, and he’s been incredible for us this season.

“I hope he can continue doing this for the rest of the season and maybe longer to come. But that’s something up to him and the club to find the idea about the future.”

Salah is expected to start against Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen on Tuesday evening as the hosts aim to make it four straight Champions League victories.
