Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has highlighted Girona left-back Miguel Gutierrez ahead of the two teams' match in the Champions League amid reputed transfer interest from the Reds. Gutierrez, 23, signed for the Spanish side from Real Madrid two years ago and is now said to be attracting attention from the Premier League.

Manchester United reportedly tried to sign the player as a 16-year-old while Jose Mourinho was their manager, and they are again linked. Gutierrez played ten times for Madrid before moving to Girona and is approaching 100 appearances for the City Football Group club.

Last season was a standout year for the Spaniard, who was named to the La Liga Team of the Season. Slot paid attention, too. Speaking about Girona during his pre-match press conference, the Reds coach said: "I think their game model is what stands out, their idea about football.

"Last season, I watched quite a lot of them because I found it interesting what he [Girona coach Michel] did with especially the left full-back [Gutierrez], and he's still doing that this season as well, playing so inverted, having such a free role from that position.

"At that moment in time, you didn't see that that often yet. Now, you see some other teams doing it as well, but that was interesting to see. They have a very good idea about football, always want to bring out the ball from the back, and they have many good players."

Andy Robertson has remained the first-choice left-back under Slot, but before injuring his ankle, Kostas Tsimikas also rotated with him more than in previous seasons under Jurgen Klopp. The Scotland international is also approaching the final 18 months of his contract and turns 31 before the end of this season.
