Liverpool could capitalize on Newcastle's FFP concerns by making a move for teenage winger Yankuba Minteh. The Gambia international spent last season on loan at Feyenoord and impressed under new Reds boss Arne Slot.

Minteh, 19, cost Newcastle just $8m (£6.5m/€7.6m) a year ago but he was immediately loaned out to Feyenoord where he scored 10 times. He was expected to return to St James' Park for pre-season in order for Eddie Howe to make checks on his progress.

But according to the Telegraph, Newcastle is considering letting Minteh go this summer with Liverpool one of several clubs to 'express an interest' in signing him when the transfer window opens.

Newcastle is under pressure to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules and accepts it has to sell players. Bruno Guimaraes has been on the radar of a host of clubs while there is also interest in Alexander Isak.

But letting Minteh go would make it easier to keep the two prized assets, with Liverpool reportedly battling Serie A and Bundesliga sides for his signature. It is claimed Newcastle would consider bids of around $51m (£40m/€47m).

Liverpool is expected to look to add another attacking wide player to its squad this summer and Slot thinks very highly of the teenager, having worked with him in Rotterdam last season.

Minteh enjoyed a fine start to life at Feyenoord and Slot lavished praise on him after a 4-0 win over Ajax in September. “He certainly doesn’t lack self-confidence. His willingness to give everything is enormous," he said.

"When we see his statistics, it is really impressive. Minteh ran more sprint meters against Ajax in an hour than many players in the two games. He is incredibly fast."

Slot continued to put his faith in the youngster over the course of the campaign and told Dutch publication Rondo in March that Minteh could reach the top level if he continues to improve his decision-making.

The interest comes amid speculation over Luis Diaz's future at Anfield. The Colombian remains on the same contract terms that he signed in 2022 and he could well be sold, amid interest from PSG and Barcelona.

Liverpool.com says: Minteh is clearly a player that Slot admires and he was eager to work with him last season. Newcastle look like being under pressure to sell this summer and Liverpool could capitalize by making a bid. Slot is known to place huge importance on his wingers and wants another in at Anfield. Minteh could prove to be a fine addition.
