Arne Slot sends plea to Liverpool fans for Aston Villa clash after what they did vs Bayer Leverkusen
Arne Slot has asked Liverpool supporters to be at their raucous best once again for Saturday’s home clash with Aston Villa, describing the atmosphere of recent matches as “special”. Anfield was notably vibrant in wins over Brighton and Bayer Leverkusen over the past week.
Last weekend, Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler noted the cauldron-like aura of the stadium as the hosts fought back from a tough first half to win 2-1. And Xabi Alonso also paid tribute to the home crowd for inspiring their side to their 4-0 victory over his Leverkusen side in midweek.
Speaking after the match, Cody Gakpo hailed the Liverpool faithful, stating: “Every game they are there for us. And we try to show them what we've got to make them proud."

Head coach Slot saw what impact the enthusiastic support had on his team across both games and has asked for match-goers to instil their influence once more against Villa this evening. Writing in this programme notes, Slot sent a plea to supporters.
“We would be the first to acknowledge the help that we have received from our supporters,” he said. “Of course I knew about the atmosphere at Anfield before I came to Liverpool.
“But to experience it at its best as head coach is an incredible experience, particularly when I am able to see the positive effect that it has on our players. In the last two home games the atmosphere has been special.
“In moments when we have really needed them, the fans have given us the extra push that we required and in general the support has been unbelievable. I would never like to ask too much of people who have already given so much but if the atmosphere even comes close today it will help us a lot.”
