Arne Slot set to give five Liverpool prospects a chance in pre-season

Arne Slot will get the chance to look at several Liverpool youngsters who have returned from their respective loan spells in the 2023/24 season. Decisions will have to be made regarding their futures after they are given an opportunity in pre-season.

The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones and more recently Jarell Quansah have all proven that viable options in the Premier League can be found through the academy. Whether it is injuries to senior players such as Joël Matip that fast-track their development or just their talent levels, a select few prospects will thrive in the first team if given the chance.

Slot, 45, is now preparing for his first pre-season in charge of the Reds in July and will likely use the summer camp as an opportunity to analyse these young talents. Bobby Clark, Jayden Danns and Lewis Koumas are the latest names to fire themselves into contention for the 2024/25 campaign, after impressing when used by Jürgen Klopp before his departure.

Fabio Carvalho and Tyler Morton, who spent last season on loan at promotion hopefuls Hull City, will return to Liverpool with confidence bursting through their play. The duo fell short in their push for a playoff spot but with just under 60 appearances in the Championship combined, they have games under their belt and will be ready to impress Slot in the coming months, according to The Athletic.

The same can be said for Sepp van den Berg, who is currently being linked with a move away from Anfield following a strong season in Germany at Mainz. The 22-year-old arrived at Liverpool from PEC Zwolle in 2019 but has not featured for the first team since 2020.

Van den Berg struggled to find his feet due to injury while on loan at Schalke last season but settled well at Klopp's former club, making 33 appearances in the Bundesliga. Slot will now take a look at his compatriot in the summer, following his strong showings in the top flight of German football.

Owen Beck is another player who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Dundee United, with two goals and four assists across his 25 starts in the Scottish Premiership. He was recalled by his parent club in January after injuries to both Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas and made one appearance in the Premier League - before a groin injury cut his season short in March.

Left-back is a problem area for Liverpool currently and Slot will consider all his options ahead of next season, including 19-year-old Luke Chambers. Following a strong loan spell in League One with Wigan Athletic, Chambers was utilised by Klopp in the Europa League and League Cup meaning he has already had a taste of first-team action at Anfield.

Liverpool.com says: It's an exciting time at Liverpool and as previously noted, youngsters can provide vital contributions to the first team if given a chance. The roles of Conor Bradley and Quansah were crucial this season and the likes of Beck, Morton and Chambers can replicate these successes.
