Arne Slot has been spotted out and about in the village of Alderley Edge in Cheshire. The new Liverpool head coach is getting settled in, but faces crunch talks with Mohamed Salah once his feet are under the desk.

Along with teammates Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, the vice-captain and captain of the club, Salah has entered the final year of his Liverpool contract. In tandem with sporting director Richard Hughes, and with big-picture guidance from Michael Edwards, Slot will need to find a resolution.

And it seems he may not have to venture far in order to have those talks with the player. Salah has often been seen in and around Alderley Edge, which is a popular haunt for footballers throughout the north-west, and Slot has now been pictured there too.

Settling into his new surroundings, Slot cuts a relaxed figure. He's been snapped coming out of a coffee shop, drink in hand.

It's been all business at the AXA Training Centre, where the Dutch coach's work has now started in earnest. The first wave of Liverpool players have returned, and are being put through their paces.

Salah is expected to follow in due course. He was not at an international tournament this summer, but has been granted a slightly extended break after playing a couple of World Cup qualifiers with Egypt after the Liverpool season had ended. He's nonetheless expected to travel as part of the US tour squad.

Perhaps he and Slot will be going out for a coffee one day soon as they look to hash out an agreement. First and foremost, Salah will presumably need to hear how the former Feyenoord boss plans to use him in the team.

Slot is known to place particular importance on his wingers. While Salah is among the foremost proponents of that position over the last half-decade, it remains to be seen whether he fits the mold, given his declining pace and explosiveness.

There could even be more of a playmaking role for Salah as he gets older, following the Lionel Messi trajectory. But wherever he plays, he will want assurances he remains one of the first names on the team sheet.

And with looming interest from Saudi Arabia, Slot knows he cannot take an agreement with Salah for granted. It's great to see him looking so relaxed already, but he has some big decisions up ahead. says: Slot's been able to ease into life in Liverpool and the surrounding area. But the real work is now beginning, with the contract questions right near the top of the to-do list.

Obviously, there will be much focus on Liverpool's transfer business in Slot's first summer. But tying down existing talent could be even more important.
