Arsenal in 'advanced talks' to make most important signing of January transfer window
Arsenal may not be hugely busy in the January transfer window. It is not normally a window that the Gunners tend to do big business in.
Clubs are often put off by inflated prices in the winter window, with teams reluctant to damage their squads. Arsenal are in the market for a frontman, having only brought in Raheem Sterling on summer deadline day.
Sterling has failed to set the Emirates Stadium alight thus far, grabbing his first assist in the Premier League in the 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Speaking about Sterling on Friday, Arteta said: "I would like to see him more, to be fair. This is down to me. He is trying his best, his application, his commitment around the team has been exceptional and now it is time for me to give him more minutes."
The Gunners preferred not to make a move for an out-and-out striker in the summer transfer window, but they may well change that plan in January or next summer.
Before they make any signings, however, they may need to think about their backroom team. Edu Gaspar resigned as sporting director last month, with no new man or woman in the role as yet.
Speaking to Arsenal, Edu said: "This was an incredibly hard decision to make. Arsenal has given me the opportunity to work with so many amazing people and the chance to be a part of something so special in the club’s history. It has been a special journey and I thank [owner] Stan [Kroenke], Josh [Kroenke, co-chair], Tim [Lewis, director] and Lord Harris [director] for the support they’ve given me."
A number of people have been linked with the vacant role and Italian football expert Gianluca Di Marzio believes a new man will be in place very soon
Roberto Olabe will be leaving his role at Real Sociedad in the summer and a deal could be done very soon to see him arrive at the Emirates Stadium as Edu's replacement.
Speaking to MyBettingSites, Di Marzio said: "It’s already well known that Roberto Olabe will leave Real Sociedad and I have been told that he is in advanced talks with Arsenal to replace Edu, so I think he could start a new era at Arsenal."
