Arsenal are still truly, madly, deeply in love with Arthur Melo it seems with fresh rumours he could be arriving at the Emirates Stadium this summer.
He may be their dream, their wish, their fantasy but it still remains to be seen if they will stand with him on a mountain or even bathe with him in the sea.
Gunners fans are tired of hearing Arthur’s name, following months and months of speculation that he’ll end up in north London, with our resident Arsenal supporter Jason Soutar as sick as any of them.
We are here to bring you more misery, Arsenal fans, as we can reveal that Italian publication Tuttosport have exclusively put the Gunners firmly back in the frame for his signature.
Arthur is ready to ‘change’ clubs this summer as he looks to cement a spot in the Brazil national team ahead of the 2022 World Cup at the end of the year.
The 25-year-old moved to Juventus from Barcelona in 2020 in a deal worth an initial €72m with another €10m potentially arriving in add-ons.
Tuttosport insist that Arthur now ‘dreams of a return to the Camp Nou’ after starting just 24 Serie A matches over two seasons and making 63 appearances in total.
He may be waiting a long time for that, though, with another La Liga club, in the form of Valencia, ‘courting him insistently’.
Valencia ‘do not intend to pay the Brazilian’s full salary’ which makes their route to a deal ‘not obvious’ but the report insists that ‘neither is it impossible’.
Arthur could have to make an ‘economic sacrifice’ to leave Juventus this summer with Arsenal mentioned as another possible option.
His future will become clearer ‘in the coming days’ as Arsenal prepare a ‘new attempt’ for the midfielder after they came ‘close’ to signing him in the January transfer window.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is said to rate Arthur with the Old Lady looking to get him off their books so they can pursue more transfers of their own.
Gabriel Magalhaes, who was one of the Gunners’ best players last season, has been linked to a £40m transfer in the opposite direction but that now looks unlikely to happen.
And former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell, speaking earlier this month, has always doubted Gabriel would move to Juventus. Campbell told Football Insider: “No chance. There is no chance. Listen, it is flattering when a club like Juventus are talking about signing you.
“It is not happening though. He is at Arsenal. We are building. Gabriel is a left-footed, Brazil international. He is a stalwart centre-half. This is the rock, the foundation that the team is built on.
“[William] Saliba, [Ben] White and Gabriel are three centre-halves who are only going to improve and get better. You need to keep them and develop them. It is flattering that Juventus are interested but go elsewhere!”
