According to reports, Arsenal have been told that Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus will cost £55m this summer.

The Gunners will be in the transfer market for at least one new striker this summer. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s departure left them with Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette as their only recognised forwards.

Nketiah and Lacazette also could leave this summer as both players are out of contract in June.

The worst signing each Premier League ‘Big Six’ club can make based on current rumours

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Jesus in recent weeks. Man City have signed Erling Haaland, so the Brazilian will likely drop down the pecking order.

Jesus has been in good form for City this term, grabbing eight goals and eight assists in 27 league games.

ESPN are reporting that Arsenal are ‘weighing up their options’ after being told that Jesus would cost £55m.

The Gunners are understood to have ‘baulked’ at this asking price given that the forward’s contract expires in 2023.

It is stated that ‘initial contact’ has been made between Arsenal and Man City. Pep Guardiola ‘would prefer to keep’ Jesus but he will be allowed to depart if he ‘pushes to leave’.

Elsewhere, Alan Shearer has joined Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher in slamming Granit Xhaka for criticising the club’s young squad despite his own poor performance.

Shearer said on Premier League Productions: “One thing that isn’t acceptable is for anyone in football to say is ‘the other team worked harder than us’.

“That’s free. Everyone can work hard. You shouldn’t be in that kit if you don’t work hard, that’s a given.

“That was the case for Arsenal against Newcastle and the other night against Tottenham. Out-thought and out-fought.

“I understand why the emotions will be anger and will be hurt. But I don’t like what Granit Xhaka said in terms of the youngsters.

“He wasn’t exactly brilliant… he was poor as well. So he had to hold his hands up, he wasn’t good enough, not just the youngsters.

“So that was slightly disappointing to hear from an experienced player.”

Fellow pundit Michael Owen, added: “Granit Xhaka coming out and saying that… he’s let them down a fair few times over the years.

“Getting silly sending offs, leaving them in the lurch… he doesn’t learn his lesson either.

“‘If he’s the captain, then he’s not showing a great example is he? Especially to those young players he is supposedly having a go at.”
