Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirms he won't retire - but could leave the Gunners

Arsene Wenger has no plans to retire from management this summer – even if it means finding a new job away from Arsenal.

Reports in Friday’s paper claim the Frenchman is preparing to walk away from the club he has called home for the past 20 years.

He has come in for heavy criticism following the Gunners’ humiliating Champions League thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Rumours of dressing room unrest, along with fighting breaking out in the stands at the Allianz Arena, have created a toxic atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium.

However, Wenger is maintaining his focus as Arsenal resume their FA Cup campaign at non league Sutton United this weekend.

“I am used to it,” Wenger said of the media pressure on his job. “I am here for 20 years.

“In life, it is important to do what is right. I am in a public job and I must accept that. Everybody can have an opinion.”

Wenger was this week quoted as setting a March/April timeline for a decision over his future.

The 67-year-old has confirmed he will not be retiring this summer and will be in a job next term – whether that is at Arsenal or not.

“If I said March/April, it is because I didn’t know,” he continued. “I do not want to comment [on his future].

“My future is not important, the team is and Arsenal Football Club.

“No matter what happens I will manage next season. If it’s here or somewhere else that is for sure.

“It is important for the club to make the right decision for the future. I did not work here for 20 years not to care.

“I had many opportunities to go somewhere else but I care for this club and its future. It is important to be in safe hands.”

Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are said to be increasingly unhappy in north London after another disappointing season for the Gunners.

Sanchez reportedly exploded at team-mates in the aftermath of the Bayern hammering as he continues to be linked with Serie A clubs.

Wenger added of the reported bust up and his star man: “He has a court case at Barcelona and he will be back in training tomorrow.

“Everybody was deeply disappointed but there was no incident in the dressing room.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal have confirmed Laurent Koscielny will undergo a scan after being forced off with an injury against Bayern.
