Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta says the club needs to resolve Shkodran Mustafi future and has hinted that he wants the German to stay.

Mustafi has endured a difficult time since joining Arsenal from Valencia for around £35million in 2016, but he has found his feet under Arteta.

The centre-back is playing some of his best football under the Spaniard, but his future remains up in the air.

Mustafi’s contract is due to expire in a year’s time and, with fresh terms not yet agreed, he could in theory leave for free next summer.

Arteta has now admitted the situation needs to be resolved and has hinted that he would like the 28-year-old to stay put.

“I’m really happy with him. That’s something the club has to address but he knows my opinion,” said Arteta.

“I’m really happy with him as you can see.

"The way he’s playing, how committed he is with everything we’re trying to do, the level in his performance ever three or four days, he’s been really consistent and I’m really happy with him.”
