Arsenal's summer transfer window has certainly started to liven up this week as the Gunners begin to edge closer to a new signing.

Bologna's Riccardo Calafiori is thought to be close to joining Mikel Arteta's side after impressing at Euro 2024 with Italy. The 22-year-old is thought to have rejected approaches from other Premier League clubs to focus in on a switch to the Emirates Stadium.

While the news of Calafiori's impending arrival is exciting, it is not the only business the Gunners are looking to complete this summer. In our latest look at the media headlines, it seems as though Arteta is set to thrust the club into plenty of transfer drama.

Arsenal to challenge Man United for striker

According to The Sun, Arsenal and Manchester United are looking to square off to sign Ajax striker Brian Brobbey. Both Arteta and Erik ten Hag want to add power to their strikeforce this summer, with the Dutchman proving to be very popular.

It is thought the Amsterdam club would be willing to accept a bid of £30m for the forward to allow him to leave.

What FL says: This could prove to be a wise piece of transfer business from Arsenal if they can pull the deal off. The 22-year-old has been impressing year on year for Ajax, and 18 league goals is not too shabby. A word of warning to the Gunners is that Ten Hag holds an advantage in this race, having worked with Brobbey before. However, even if Arsenal cannot complete a deal for the striker, they could be able to run up the bill for United, which could weaken their position to make any further improvements to their squad.

Inter looking to hijack Kiwior transfer

According to Calciomercato, Inter are looking to hijack Juventus' bid to sign Jakub Kiwior this summer. Arsenal's defender is out of favour at the Emirates Stadium, and it is understood Serie A clubs are sniffing around the Polish international ahead of a move.

The Gunners are thought to be open to selling Kiwior considering they are close to Calafiori, with Juve desperate to sign the 24-year-old after missing out on the Bologna man. The Milan club are thought to be aware of Arsenal's ambition to sell Kiwior and are now desperate to pip Juventus to his signature.

What FL says: Kiwior may not be wanted at Arsenal this summer; now Calafiori looks to be close, but that should not stop Arteta trying to drum up a bidding war between the Italian giants. The Gunners were not expecting to gain a massive chunk of money for the Polish full-back, but if they can get £30+, it would be a huge result. That money could then be redistributed into the striker transfer pot, which will need replenishing if they are to add the game-changing player that is needed to win the title next season.
