Premier League side Arsenal are considering the sale of Gabriel to Juventus after just two seasons at the club, according to reports in Italy.

The Brazilian has impressed this term for the Gunners after joining from Lille in September 2020 for a fee in the region of £27m.

Gabriel has formed a steady partnership with Ben White, since the latter joined in the summer, and the pair have helped Arsenal to become contenders for a top-four finish this season.

William Saliba, whose superb form for Marseille has seen him capped twice for France this season, is returning to Arsenal in the summer and that will add more competition to a healthy area of the squad.

However, Italian publication Tuttosport claims that Gabriel is an ‘alternative’ transfer target for Serie A side Juventus if they fail to land Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic.

The report admits that Arsenal could be ‘an expensive shop’ to buy in but that English sources have told Tuttosport that the Gunners are ‘developing the idea of selling the player’.

Juventus midfielder Arthur has been previously linked with a move to the Premier League outfit and Tuttosport reckons he could be used to tempt Arsenal to sell Gabriel.

Speaking last month about how he’s settled in at Arsenal, Gabriel said: “Well in my first season I certainly learnt a lot.

“It’s been a real challenge here and I am more and more settled every day. I feel better and better with each passing game.

“At the same time, we know we all can’t be perfect in every match. We do make mistakes.

“But I feel good, I feel at home at Arsenal. It’s a great squad to be a part of and together I am sure we can achieve a lot. I am very happy here.”

In another interview, Gabriel revealed that Arsenal had Nicolas Pepe to thank for his move to the Emirates Stadium.

The Brazilian said: “Lille are a great club, a club that sells a lot so I knew I had to show myself. In the winter (of the 2019-2020 season) before the league stopped, I was already meant to sign for Everton. I underwent my medical, etc…

“But it didn’t get done. I had already envisioned myself leaving after that season. I spoke with Napoli, Everton once again, but I then chose Arsenal thanks to Nicolas Pépé, who sold the club well to me.”
