Arsenal have confirmed their contract offer to Eddie Nketiah, with negotiations ongoing.

The striker’s current deal is due to expire at the end of June and, if he does not pen fresh terms, can leave on a free transfer.

Arsenal have now publicly confirmed reports that they have offered the 23-year-old a new deal and remain locked in talks.

The Gunners are optimistic that Nketiah can be persuaded to stay after he enjoyed a fine run in Mikel Arteta’s team towards the end of the season. He has previously been adamant that his future will be based around playing time as he is hungry for more minutes.

Nketiah got a run of starts towards the end of the most recent campaign and finished with five goals in seven games. He has previously rejected Arsenal’s contract offers, but it is hoped he will accept their latest proposal.

Arsenal are in the market for a striker this summer and Gabriel Jesus of Manchester City is their No1 target. Alexandre Lacazette has been allowed to leave after his contract expired and he rejoined Lyon earlier this week.

Arsenal confirmed on Friday morning that youngsters Jonathan Dinzeyi, Joel Lopez and Jordan McEneff will also be departing the Emirates after their own contracts expire.

In a statement, Arsenal added: “Please note, any further developments regarding players extending their contracts; joining/re-joining us; or leaving us will be officially communicated as soon as they are confirmed.
