Arsenal have got their transfer window up and running as they officially confirmed the signing of Marquinhos.

The 19-year-old joins the Gunners from Sao Paulo on a long-term contract for a fee in the region of £3million, with the Brazilian expected to join up with his new club for pre-season and potentially the tour to the United States.

There were fears earlier in the summer that Arsenal could be dragged into a legal battle over the signing of Marquinhos, with Wolves claiming they had agreed to sign the player, but technical director Edu has now got his man.

“We’re delighted to have completed the transfer with Sao Paulo, as Marquinhos was a player we had been watching for a while,” Edu told the club’s official website.

“At 19, he is still very young, so he is a player for the future. We look forward to Marquinhos now joining us for pre-season, making his new home, and continuing to grow and develop with us.”

Marquinhos will be hoping to have a similar impact in the seasons ahead to Gabriel Martinelli, who has shone since arriving from Ituano three years ago.

Mikel Arteta’s squad could have an increasingly Brazilian feel to it by the end of the window, with Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus among those linked with a move to the Emirates this summer.
