Arsenal has reportedly offered a new contract to a first-team star playing a major role in the club’s stunning start to the new season.
Mikel Arteta’s men currently head the Premier League table by two points from Manchester City after 12 games and have only lost once in the league so far this season.
A major part of that success has been a solid defence that has conceded just 11 goals so far.
And it’s Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba who have formed a tremendous partnership at the heart of the backline.
The former has already signed a new contract at The Emirates, penning his new deal recently.
And after that contract was signed, Arteta praised the partnership that has flourished for the Gunners.
He said: “A winning team needs to have a spine of the team that is tremendously consistent and play at a really high level, keep clean sheets and we are doing that a lot.
“When we look at a central defender we look at partnerships.
“I think Gabby has made William a better player. And I think Willy helps Gabby to be the same – there is a strong chemistry there.
“You can sense it and the way they communicate with each other and play for each other. It is really positive and what you want.”
Saliba set for bumper pay day
Well, it now appears that Saliba is ready to get his just rewards.
The defender joined the club in 2019 but spent much of his early time at the club away on loan.
Saliba’s current contract runs out in 2023 and although he has an option to extend that by a further year, Arsenal are keen to get him tied down for longer – as reported by The Athletic.
However, the report adds that the player’s entourage could up sending back the offer for a better one if they don’t like what they see.
Saliba and the Gunners are back in action on Thursday night when they take on FC Zurich in the Europa League.
A lunchtime date with Chelsea follows on Sunday as the clock counts down to the start of the winter World Cup.
