Arsenal could be denied FFP boost as £25m transfer hits major stumbling block
Arsenal's attempts to sell Eddie Nketiah to Marseille have been dealt a major blow with the Ligue 1 club back in talks with Lens over the signing Elye Wahi. Roberto De Zerbi is keen to bolster his OM attack this summer and had identified Nketiah as someone that could bolster that.
The Gunners have been in talks with Marseille over a season-long move with an obligatory fee of around £25million. It had been reported that OM are yet to agree to those terms with discussions ongoing, having initially made an offer of around £17m for the player last month. Personal terms are believed to be agreed on a five-year deal. Nketiah scored just six goals in 37 appearances last season.
And now, Marseille are looking at alternatives. According to Foot Mercato, OM has made a 'strong comeback' in the race for Lens forward Elye Wahi. It's claimed that Marseille have resumed discussions with Lens on the terms of the transfer. OM want to get a striker over the line before the start of the Ligue 1 season this weekend, meaning time is running out but De Zerbi and the Marseille board are not giving up.

Wahi, 21, is no stranger to Arsenal fans. He scored and grabbed an assist during Lens' 2-1 victory over the Gunners in the Champions League last season. The forward has enjoyed a prolific last couple of years in France and netted 12 times in 37 matches for Lens in 2023/24 after his £30m move from Montpellier. West Ham and Leicester had been linked with a move from Wahi earlier in the window.
As for Nketiah, he is open to leaving Arsenal this summer in search of regular game time. Speaking after their 2-0 victory over Lyon on Sunday, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta hinted that Nketiah could stay. He said: "All the players that are here there's the biggest chance that they stay with us, that's why they're here." The Gunners face Wolves in their Premier League opener on Saturday.
