Arsenal fans furious to learn of Thierry Henry’s apparent role in Alexis Sanchez’s Manchester United transfer

Arsenal supporters have angrily lashed out at club legend Thierry Henry, after Alexis Sanchez claimed the Frenchman inspired him to leave the club for Manchester United.

United announced on Monday evening that they had signed Sanchez from Arsenal in a swap deal with midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Sanchez has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with the club, while Arsenal announced that Mkhitaryan had joined the club “on a long-term deal”.

After United confirmed the swap deal, Sanchez took to Instagram where he thanked Arsenal’s fans before revealing Henry’s involvement in the transfer.

“I remember today, a conversation I had with Henry, a historic Arsenal player, who changed club for the same reason and today is my turn,” he wrote.

Sanchez also took a parting shot at former Arsenal players who have criticised him for wanting to leave the north London side, adding: “There are people (former club players) who have spoken with no knowledge of what happens inside the club and cause damage.

“I must say I always gave 100%, until the last day, when I asked to the Mister to be in the team, because I wanted to be a contribution.”

Unsurprisingly, Arsenal supporters were less than impressed to learn Henry had supposedly played a part in Sanchez’s decision to leave the club, with many venting their frustration on Twitter.

“Henry speaking to Alexis about leaving the club for better things…” one wrote. “Not my legend.”

Patrick Timmons added: “This season alone, Henry has attempted to motivate Kane prior to the north London derby, given Bournemouth a pep talk before playing us and advised Alexis on leaving the club.

“Regardless of his exceptional playing career, he is really tainting his legacy at the club since.

“Not to mention that he turned down a coaching role in favour of a lucrative contract at Sky Sports.”

Another fan simply wrote: “Take Henry’s statue down.”

Henry spent eight seasons in north London, playing 369 games for the club and scoring 226 goals.

He won two Premier League titles, two FA Cups and helped Arsenal reach the final of the 2005/06 Champions League, where they lost 2-1 to Barcelona.
